Rich vs poor species in leaf secondary metabolites and bacterial colonization of their phyllosphere
Department of Ecology, School of Biology, Aristotle University, GR-54124 Thessaloniki, Greece
Abstract
This paper assesses the relationship between leaf secondary metabolites and microbial communities establishing on the leaves of plant species growing in the Mediterranean environment. The issue examined is whether the size and diversity of epiphytic microbial communities are determined by the leaf secondary metabolite content and profile. The secondary metabolites dealt with are essential oils and surface phenolics.
