Foreword

On behalf of the Organising Committee of the 4th World Congress on Allelopathy, I extend a very warm welcome to Australia and to Wagga Wagga in particular. We certainly hope you enjoy your visit, establish strong lasting friendships and become better informed on research in allelopathy around the world.

This Congress has a focus on five theme areas: ecology, chemistry, novel approaches, breeding and genetics and allelopathy in rice. The overall theme is “Establishing the Scientific Base” to increase the credibility of our research area. The Organising Committee has introduced for the first time a refereed Proceedings which will be available on the internet. In this way the profile of the International Allelopathy Society will be enhanced, and support for publication given to aspiring allelopathy scientists.

It is recognised that Australia is a long distance from many countries and is expensive to travel to, compared with many other places. Nevertheless, delegates from more than 25 countries are attending and we look forward to the cultural exchanges that such Congresses provide.

It has been a pleasure to host this Congress and to share our experiences in allelopathy.

Prof Jim Pratley
Chair, Congress Organising Committee.
Dean, Faculty of Science and Agriculture,
Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, Australia.
