Collaborators: The NCVP funds projects with a wide range of organisations including Bureau of Meteorology, CSIRO and State Government Departments.
Sponsors: The current and third phase of the program is funded by the Commonwealth Government as part of the Agriculture - Advancing Australia package. In addition, the following R&D Corporations contribute to the current phase, Land and Water Resources, Rural Industries, Grains, Sugar, Dairy and Pig.
Objectives: The NCVP funds projects to achieve the goal of working with the Australian agricultural sector to develop and implement profitable and sustainable management strategies which prepare it to respond to the major opportunities and risks arising from climate variability.
Methodology: Based on a program review and consultation with stakeholders, four areas of research focus were developed as follows:
1. Climate prediction and impacts;
2. Adaptive R & D
3. Marketing and market research
4. Extension and the value of applications.
Progress: Following a public call for applications, some twenty projects are currently being funded in the four areas of research focus.
