About IIIS

The Institutional Investor Information Service (IIIS) was initiated in 1995 as a partnership between the Commonwealth Government, state and territory governments and the Australian Council for Infrastructure Development (AusCID), the industry lobby group for the major infrastructure providers in Australia. Its specific aims were to:

· Enhance economic growth in rural and regional Australia by facilitating greater private investment in public economic and social infrastructure;

· Improve the links between the proponents of regional infrastructure projects and institutional investors; and

· Overcome the significant " information gap " between these two groups.

IIIS was based on the view that many regional project ideas went unnoticed by city-based investors or foundered through lack of access to capital and expertise. Major institutional investors are often reluctant to invest in the smaller end of the market (less than $50million), in certain asset classes and in development capital projects with long pay-back periods. Proponents are often unable to bring all components of a proposal together to meet investor requirements.

Two workshop programs were held under the IIIS banner, one in 1997/98 and another in 2000, in an ambitious program to address these issues.

IIIS has been managed by The Australian Council for Infrastructure Development ( www.auscid.org.au) for the past three years and funded through the Department of Transport and Regional Services.
