Is there a need for a sub-discipline in soil science for Regolith Pedology? This paper attempts to define and characterise the concept within an earth surface systems context. The viewpoint presented here proposes the benefits of this field of study within soil science as an enhancement of pedological studies rather than a concept and science running in parallel.
Regolith pedology encourages a greater geoscience involvement in scientific investigations of soil materials and provides a merger of geoscience and soil science conceptual viewpoints towards solving soil-related natural resource and environmental management problems.
